Weldless Sight Glass

This is good. Not yet installed, but Very Happy with the quality. Couldn't have gotten luckier. Looks durable and versatile.

I bought one for my Grainfather and one for my Robobrew. The Grainfather one worked perfectly with no leaks. The other needed some food-grade latex caulk, but works well. If you’re going to do this, you need a step drill to cut the hole in the stainless, a file to smooth and flatten the inside of the hole, and maybe some food-grade high-temp tolerant caulk. I also recommend a large eye bolt, rubber washers, and a nut to secure the top of the sight glass. You will probably have to cut the shank of the eye bolt short to prevent scraping the grain pipe on the GF or RB.

So far, so good. I just drilled a hole in my old kettle, now hot liquor tun. The main connection did not leak. There was a leak coming from the tube tube column. Easy fix. All I did was tighten the threaded cover on the top of the tube, making sure the glass tube is sealed perfectly top to bottom. Now it's time to fill with a gallon at a time, and mark with a Sharpee.

Truly a purpose built sight glass, not just an assembly of stainless pipe fittings with a plastic tube. Price was 25% lower than the next best one I found.

The sight glass was easy to install and worked perfectly the first time.
